Choose your own Adventure

Rather than have set packages, charter outings are completely customisable as to how long you’d like to go for and how best you’d like to use your time. Activities can be broadly separated into bait collecting and fishing which you can choose to do either or both - bear in mind that the freshest/live bait usually provides the best fishing results.

Certain species are more viable at different times of the year and some fishing techniques are best suited to different time frames and skill levels. Don’t hesitate to email or phone in to find out more and get a session booked in.

Bait Collecting

Beach worms

Arguably the best beach fishing bait and readily available on many of our beaches; if you know how to catch them. Almost everything that swims in the surf will eat a beach worm and booking in a beach worming lesson will set you up to for a lifetime of fruitful fishing. Combining a beach worming lesson with a fishing session afterwards will take it that step further and teach you how to not only catch beach worms but also how best to use them for several different fish species. Using worming pliers is the easiest way to start out and these are provided for all participants, but if you’d prefer to go old-school and use your fingers, this can be taught as well.

Yellowtail scad

A fantastic and common bait fish which can be thrown as livebait for the mighty mulloway or used as cut bait for several other surf species. Catching yellowtail is great fun for kids and a good way to start a session of live-baiting from the beach for that trophy fish. While not a hard fish to catch, there are tips and rigs provided that will have you slaying.

Nippers/Saltwater yabbies

A plentiful and easy to access bait resource of our estuaries. Fun and easy to catch, and fish love to eat them - pumping some nippers then hitting the beach is fast way to learning the ins and outs of successful surf fishing.

Fishing

Sapphire Beach Fishing Charters offers the use of two premium beach fishing setups, a Light Surf 10’6 rod and reel combo, and a Heavy Surf 13’ combo. These two combos cover the whole gamut of possible targets here on the Sapphire Coast.

Light Surf Fishing – Penn Prevail II 10’6 5-9kg rod & Penn Spinfisher 3500 VI reel

This combo is best suited to our smaller surf species, such as Bream, Whiting, and Trevally, but also makes a very sporting setup for throwing lures or baits for the hard fighting Australian Salmon. Lightweight and comfortable to use especially by smaller people including kids. Catching some beach worms or nippers to use live on these setups is highly recommended but not required.

Heavy Surf Fishing – Penn Prevail II 13’ 8-20kg rod & Penn Spinfisher 6500 VI reel

An absolute beast of a combo for throwing large baits and heavy sinkers while targeting Tailor, Salmon, Mulloway, and Sharks. There’s a range of baits which will produce the results on this setup, but catching some yellowtail to use live or butterflied/cut into strips, or some king beachworms will give you the best chance of putting a mulloway on the sand.

To book in, please use the contact details below or on the home page. A 25% deposit is required to confirm a booking which is refunded if you cancel your booking with at least 7 days notice.

Full refund or reschedule offered if charter is cancelled due to adverse weather which includes heavy rain, lightning, hail, strong winds, and extreme swells.

Don’t hesitate to contact me for more information on any of the services outlined above.
